| AYES - My Trip |
What will I be doing in Central America?
12-day Volunteer Project
The AYES program is an opportunity for YOU to embark on a
12-day volunteer project in Central America. You will be working
with a team of 8-10 Aboriginal Canadian Youth to reach out
to an impoverished community. Working alongside teachers,
students, and community leaders, you will be helping to construct
a new school building or library for an underprivileged school.
Cultural Workshop
Your volunteer project will begin in Managua, the Capital
City of Nicaragua, with a two day Cultural Workshop. This
will give you the chance to orient yourself with your team
members, share your cultural presentation, and begin your
adventure into Nicaraguan life.
Cultural Exchange Day
While on project, you will have an opportunity as a group
to create and invite locals to a Cultural Exchange Day. This
will be your time to share your art, dance, stories and songs
with your new Nicaraguan friends.
De-briefing Seminar
At the end of your stay in Central America, your team will
have a de-briefing seminar to help you focus what you have
learned from your SchoolBox project. The process will help
you to create a presentation on your experiences that you
can share with your reserve community in Canada.

Your Impact
By the end of your trip, you will have made a huge contribution
to an impoverished area. You will have helped to fund and construct
a new school building that will empower the community for generations.
Sharing your cultural heritage with your team members and the
community will strengthen your personal identity and pride as
an Aboriginal Canadian. There is no limit to what you can accomplish! |
