| Volunteer and
Intern Program - Overview |
Interns and Volunteers
Since SchoolBOX began in 2006, our non-profit organization
has grown immensely through the passion and generosity of
volunteers, individuals, and groups. In 2008, we decided to
expand our volunteer program in order to allow more individuals
to get involved in international development at a grass roots
level.
In February 2010 SchoolBOX fostered a successful partnership
with a Canadian organization, Companeros Inc., which specializes
in volunteer service experiences in Nicaragua. SchoolBOX and
Companeros Inc. are working together to plan and implement
efficient, rewarding and memorable volunteer programs and
to fulfill SchoolBOX's mission to provide the basic human
right of education to children in Nicaragua.
SchoolBOX currently has two innovative and
original intern/volunteer programs, which give YOU the opportunity
to make a real difference through hands on experience.
• Project Leaders (Interns):
This program is designed for individuals who have two months
to commit and who are interested in overseeing a project build
in a local community.
• Volunteers: This program is planned
and implemented through a partnership between SchoolBOX and
Companeros. It allows individuals with less time, ten days,
to make a substantial contribution to SchoolBOX. By forming
part of a volunteer group, these individuals will help out
with a construction project along side SchoolBOX staff and
community volunteers.
Project Leaders and Volunteers will be involved in all aspects
of project builds. Physical labour will form an important
part of every intern’s and volunteer’s daily routine.
Fee structures depend on which program you would
like to participate in. Please see the specific volunteer/intern
sections for further details.

Why choose to volunteer with
SchoolBox?
The SchoolBOX volunteer program allows you to make a substantial
difference with whatever amount of time you are able to donate.
By helping build a school or library for an impoverished community,
you will personally and tangibly experience the very real difference
SchoolBOX projects have in these impoverished communities. In
this way, the important work of every Volunteer and Intern will
help us realize our mission of Making Education Possible in
Central America.
For those looking to become involved in international development
as a career or simply looking to empower an impoverished community
during your vacation, SchoolBOX offers unparalleled opportunities.
You will be working alongside dedicated community members in
Nicaragua with whom you can spark lifelong relationships while
learning about their country, culture, and language.
SchoolBOX also encourages you to get involved in your project
prior to departure through awareness building and fundraising.
This will prepare you for your journey and introduce you to
the community that you will be working with. By uniting your
preparatory work and your experiences on the ground, your time
as an Intern or Volunteer with SchoolBOX will provide you with
an awareness of all aspects of not for profit work.

Fundraising for your Volunteer
Project
We are a small not-for-profit and survive on the passion and
dedication of our team and the continued contributions of
new volunteers. Each Intern or Volunteer is expected to fundraise
for the project he/she will be part of. SchoolBOX puts funds
into every project and we ask you to help in raising some
of the funds to carry it through.
OUR GUARANTEE: All funds that you raise will
be spent directly on ‘your’ project.
This transparency distinguishes SchoolBOX. Not only does this
give you a greater involvement with your specific project,
but also allows your sponsors to connect through you to the
project.
